Twitter Man Trump — A Perspective
The news media is often accused of giving Trump, and most especially his tweets, too much coverage. Some of the criticism may be justified, but the reality is that technically those tweets are the pronouncements of the president of the United States. So, they virtually have to report on them, even if many of them are egocentric rants. But maybe a little perspective is needed.
Let’s start with the first — and my favorite — fact. The #1 Twitter account in the world is… guess who… not Trump but his arch-rival, his nemesis… Barack Obama. You know that fact alone must drive the already crazy Trump even crazier.

Obama has nearly 111 Million followers on Twitter. Trump? He has just short of 68 Million. And if you clicked on the link, you will notice something else. He didn’t make the top ten. He gets beat out by Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Ellen Degeneres and… my apologies, I am not familiar with these two — Singer Ariana Grande and Soccer player Cristiano.
Now, in fairness (a concept unfamiliar to Trump) he does come in at #11, according to the Social Blade analysis. Also, in fairness, it should be noted that he has sparked a renewed interest and engagement with Twitter. But for a man who likes to brag that “nobody” does better than him, and who really does have an anti-Obama obsession, there’s more bad news.
Obama averages five times as many retweets as Trump. Twit Trump averages just under 17,000 retweets of his postings. Obama averages slightly more than 79,000 retweets of his postings. Twitter-man gets an average of just under 69,000 likes of his tweets. Obama gets a little more than 362,000 average likes.

Now there is something for which Trump can claim he beats Obama: the number of Tweets. Obama averages about a dozen or so tweets a month. Meanwhile the Tweeter-in-Chief sends out hundreds of tweets each month. His tweeting frenzy has gotten worse in the last few months, going from 400 to 600 to 800 — until finally he actually hit a new high in October with more than 1,000 tweets. Think about it. He is sending out more than 30 tweets a day.

Here’s my final factoid of the article. Candidly I’m not sure what it tells you, but it’s definitely worth sharing. If you look at the numbers, you will see that Obama follows more than 610,000 Twitter accounts. Trump follows only 68 Twitter accounts.
I lied: — Here’s my final factoid(s). I had to see who he thought was worth following. Surprise. Okay, no surprise. He follows all his hotel/ business accounts and his ‘children.’ Then, no surprise again, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, Greta van Susteren, Piers Morgan, Geraldo Rivera, the Oreo Cookies Diamond and Silk, and of course, Fox and Friends, and the Drudge Report.
